Aurland is perhaps one of Norway's most beautiful takeoffs! Many clubs hold SIV courses here several times a year.
From the main Launch, it is common to take off on westerly winds towards the Aurlandsfjord.
This is a great student / PP2 start without obstacles and with a long runout.
Another launch area is 50 m higher and 200 m further north on a hill along the hiking trail up to crest. From this launch one can take off in all directions with the exception of N-NE. At the eastern takeoff, one can turn right right after takeoff and fly out over the main takeoff.
Landing on one of the fields at Winjum camping. Must be agreed with the farmer (Winjumen) in advance. He lives in the white house on the campsite.
The landing is relatively small, and a bit hilly (rather down towards the water) but perfectly OK for PP2 and students who have shown they can land.
Keep the take-off and landing area clean and tidy.
Familiarize yourself with aircraft operating regulations for the area.
Updated info about this can be found on the FB page for Flying in Aurland.
The fee to fly is NOK 10, - pr. flight, with a maximum of NOK 50, - pr. day and a max of kr. 100, - for a long weekend and avg. preferably paid electronically.
