Col de la Forclaz / Montmin

Magnificent takeoff in front of the lake, but very busy in summer by tandem pilots. From May to September, there is a chargeable barrier to limit the number of vehicles between the pass and take-off. Park in the parking lot and walk 15 minutes or pay 20€ per pass. There is also an official shuttle service from the landing of Doussard (out of season contact the Doussard Parapente club) Best known airfield in the region. In good conditions you have to fight for a starting place. Flight operations are normally controlled by a launch leader. Tandem pilots have priority over all free flyers. Hang-gliders can start on a ramp. As usual in France, you should only go to the start when you are completely hooked in. Afterwards an unforgettable flight over the Lac d'Annecy awaits every pilot. Those who can gain height should feel their way northwards to the narrowest point of the lake. With sufficient height you can now cross the lake to find a thermal connection on the west side again. If you don't succeed in a cross-country flight you can just enjoy the mountain scenery and a nice flight to the landing site. Those who want to fly at Col de la Forclaz can either take the shuttle bus from the landing place in Doussard or from the 2nd turn after the pass height the legs. In about 10 minutes the sporty flyer will be at the take-off point. The challenge is too big for hang-gliders, but they (and of course everyone else) can buy an access card at the town hall of vTalloires for a nominal charge of 10 €, which is rechargeable and does not expire. Then 2,50€ will be charged per ride. Access to the upper parking lot is reserved for shuttles, schools and tandem pilots, and the disabled. As there is no shuttle bus for them, deltas can also access it (payment is made by credit card at an automatic terminal at the barrier just before the terminal ascent). Col de Forclaz GS 1

You can get to the restaurant by car. From there, walk a short distance to the large launch site, which is prepared with mats. Altitude difference: approx. 700 m The launch site is large enough for up to 4 gliders to be set up at the same time. The large mats mean that no lines can get caught anywhere. The kite launches are on the left (looking in the direction of launch). There are two ramps, which are also covered with mats. Col De La Forclaz - Montmin - Coche Cabanne

Delicate take-off in northerly winds (strong rollers) / Overflying the "bout du lac" nature reserve is forbidden all year round for altitudes < 200 m above sea level / No strong southerly wind. Strong southerly winds: refrain from using the H.T. line and the approach road (with your back to the lake). / Slight SW, lake breeze The region’s most famous flying site. When conditions are good, you have to fight for a launch spot. Flight operations are usually managed by a launch director. Tandem pilots have priority over all solo pilots. Hang gliders can launch from a ramp. As is customary in France, you should not proceed to the launch until you are fully harnessed. After that, every pilot can look forward to an unforgettable flight over Lake Annecy. Those who can gain altitude should head north toward the narrowest point of the lake. With sufficient altitude, you can now cross the lake to find thermals again on the west side. Those who don’t manage a cross-country flight can settle for a beautiful flight back to the landing site and simply enjoy the mountain scenery. Those wishing to fly at Col de la Forclaz can either take the shuttle bus from the landing site in Doussard or hike from the second hairpin bend after the pass summit. In about 10 minutes, the athletic pilot will reach the launch site. For hang gliders, the challenge is too great. Instead, they (and of course everyone else) can purchase an access card at the Talloires town hall for a nominal fee of €10; this card is rechargeable and does not expire. €2.50 is then deducted per ride. August 26, 2025 ATTENTION: Currently, the situation with the shuttles on site is quite unclear. Many pilots report that a shuttle service is no longer available and that tandem operators are also no longer allowed to take other pilots along. August 28, 2025 UPDATE: According to the Commune de Talloires-Montmin, there will be no shuttle service for pilots this year outside of safety training sessions. For 2026, the municipality will issue a call for bids to find a company interested in resuming the service. Planfait

Planfait is one of the 2 main launches at Lake Annecy, the other being Montmin / Col de Forclaz. Planfait has an altitude difference of approximately 400 m, while Montmin is 800 m. Frequently used by local schools, it can be busy sometimes. There are 3 lanes: 1 for tandems and schools, 1 for solo pilots and 1 mixed, so takeoff is relatively quick even if there are a lot of students who require extra time to launch. Pilots should set up on the grass area beside launch BEFORE laying out on the takeoff area. This speeds up launch for everyone. Thanks! The low-lying Planfait launch site usually offers reliable updrafts from late morning. While the pilots at the Col de Forclac are still struggling with the weak thermals, the upwind bubbles are already bubbling at Planfait. Soaring is also excellent here. In the afternoon, takeoffs are usually no longer possible, as the usually very strong valley wind also reaches the lower slope areas. A stone's throw away from Doussard is the south-facing airfield at Col de Epinne. The terrain is particularly suitable for mornings to noon and reliably produces slope upcurrents that are thermally interspersed. The launch site is a bit narrow and steep. Mutual assistance contributes to a smooth take-off. At the landing site Patrick Berod runs a small aircraft shop with an adjoining restaurant and café. After dinner, the afternoon flying areas Bisanne Nord, Fenetre 7, L´Ebaudiaz, Chamaux, Val Pellouse or Allevard are announced as dessert.
