Pfingstegg

From Grindelwald by cable car to Pfingstegg. From there 2 min. walk, right 100m next to the mountain station in the clearing. The launch site is relatively small. Max 2-3 umbrellas can be laid out. The start is in the fall line in the direction of the valley floor. Usually the wind comes up thermally along the slope, slightly from the left, rather short launch site. Thermals and soaring access directly in front of the starting point up to 50m on the right and up to 300m on the left of the starting point along the slope. In general, you have to fly close to the ground for the first few meters of altitude, only at the top of the rocky terrain will the ground distance be greatly increased. The use is free of charge. From Grindelwald by cable car to Pfingstegg. From there 1h 30 min walk along the hiking trail towards Baeregg. The Starplatz is 100m to the left of the mountain restaurant Baeregg. The starting place is nice and even and has practically no stones. We start in the fall line towards the glacier. Sometimes there's a little crosswind. Grindelwald First

From Grindelwald take the cable car up to First. From there it is a 2-minute walk along the access path to the launch site, 100m below the First restaurant. The launch site is very large and even, without stones or obstacles. Many national and international competitions have been held here. The most beautiful flights in the Jungfrau region can be made from here. You can take off in three different directions. The wind usually comes up the slope thermally. It is advisable to launch in a southerly or south-westerly direction (normal launch direction) or easterly. When launching in a westerly direction over the cliff, it is important to take into account the possibility of an early abort and a lot of practice is required. Huge meadow launch site below the mountain station of the First mountain railway. The First near Grindelwald is one of the best thermal spots. The thermals can be correspondingly strong on some days. The First cable car takes you from the centre of Grindelwald to the magnificent Wiesestartplatz a few metres below the mountain station. The starting place is wide, big and forgiving. The fantastic panorama seduces to distraction. One should not underestimate in any case the long flight path to the landing place in Grund. If the flight altitude is not sufficient to reach the landing site for whatever reason, you can land at the Bodmi landing site. The landing site is next to the cable car. From Grindelwald by post bus in the direction of Gr. Scheidegg to the Lauchbuehl stop. From there on the marked mountain path to the hut. Hike 3h. The launch site is 60m to the right of the Glecksteinhuette, seen from below. It's a steep meadow. However, the glider itself can be laid out flat. Some stones in the meadow. We start towards the glacier in the Fall line. It's a mountain launch site. A little crosswind from time to time. During the autumn days calmer! From Grindelwald with the gondola lift to the First. From there 2,5h. Walk along the hiking trail in the direction of Faulhorn. The starting point is either directly under the Restaurant Faulhorn or 250 further down on the Gassenboden. The starting area directly at the restaurant is steep and somewhat stony. We start in the direction of Eigernorwand (south). Mostly light crosswind from the right. The other launch site down on the ground is large and flat, but also stony. Here you start in direction southwest or west, the wind comes mostly from this direction. For thermals we fly around the Reti. On the southwest flank of the Retihorn mostly good thermals. Maennlichen

Either from Grindelwald with the cable car to the Maennlichen or from Lauterbrunnen with the Wengernalp cable car to Wengen. Then take the cable car to the Maennlichen. From there 300m, 20min walk towards the Maennlichen summit. The starting area is fairly central between the cable car and the Maennlichen summit. You can start in two different directions. For the start towards the east (Grindelwald) practically the whole Maennlichen chain can be used. The launch site has some undulations and hollows. Light thermals at the tree line to Holenstein. Take-off towards Lauterbrunnen (west) is well suited in the flat couloir with a weak westerly wind. In the afternoon, however, there is strong sunlight on the steep western slope below the launch site. The resulting sometimes strong thermals can swirl the launch plateau. Quieter in the fall! The thermal access in the direction of Lauterbrunnen is directly in front of the launch site or to the left and right along the entire Maennliche Kette. Use is free of charge.
